Ray William Peterson
August 27, 1925 ~ June 3, 2016
On June 3, 2016, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away at McKay Dee Hospital from heart failure. He had a great love for his family, and in return, they treasured every minute spent with him. Ray was born on August 27, 1925, in Ovid, Idaho, to Ivan Henry and Christine Sarah Peterson. They later moved to Logan where he graduated from high school in 1937.
He served proudly during WWII in the 63rd Infantry Division of the US Army, serving in France and Germany. His division was instrumental in liberating the Nazi Concentration Camp in Landsberg, Germany. He had a great love for this country and honored our flag.
Upon returning home from the war, he attended Utah State University where he received a commission in the Air Force Reserve, as well as, a degree in Engineering. He met a beautiful girl, whom he adored, Merlene Harrison, while attending school and they were married on May 28, 1947, in the Logan LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings including Finance Clerk, High Priest Group Leader, faithful Home Teacher, and his favorite…Ogden Temple Ordinance Worker.
In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and camping. He was an avid car enthusiast. He even built a 1952 MG replica.
Ray is survived by his wife, Merlene Peterson, North Ogden; sons, Allan Peterson, West Jordan; Brent (Diane) Peterson, Layton; Jeffrey (DeAnn) Peterson, North Ogden; and daughter, Lori (Dean) Anderson, Plain City; 15 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a very sweet granddaughter, Sara Mortenson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 16th Ward, 205 East Elberta Dr. The family will meet with friends and relatives on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Logan City Cemetery.
