Richard George McKenzie

LAYTON – Richard George McKenzie, 90, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 due to age and mileage.

He was born August 21, 1926 in Ogden, Utah the son of George Cunningham McKenzie Jr. and Anna Withall Hodges McKenzie.

He grew up in Ogden graduating from Ogden High School in 1944. After graduating Dick joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Sprig and swept for mines in the Pacific Ocean during WWII.

Dick married Dorothy Aileen Taylor on January 10, 1947 in Ogden, Utah.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings including Bishop.  He served a mission with his wife in Scotland.

He retired after 37 years at HAFB following a highly successful career where he served as assistant to the general and retired as deputy director of maintenance.  After retiring from HAFB he became a consultant for Boeing and General Dynamics.

Dick was an active sports participant.  He was also active in City Government including, Mayor of Layton City.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy, Layton; son, David George McKenzie, Pleasant View; four daughters, Karen Murphy, Layton; Peggy Meeks, Clinton; Debra (John) Benich, Centerville; Amy (James) Taylor, Riverton; 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield
